Campaign SightFirst was the most successful campaign ever undertaken by the Lions of the world. The goal of 133 million dollars was challenging to say the least but the Lions rose to the occasion, embraced this notable project and raised 143 million dollars to cure or prevent blindness throughout the world. The following illustrates what we wanted to do and what was, in fact, accomplished.

1990 Goals

Improve eye care for 75 million people
Prevent vision loss or restore vision in 8.7 million people
Create more than 150 eye-care clinics worldwide
Train more than 2,500 health-care professionals

2005 Accomplishments:

Improved eye care for more than 100 million
Saved 24 million people from blindness or severe vision loss
258 eye hospitals built or expanded
65,000 eye-care professionals and allied-health workers received instruction

It is imperative that such concerns as vision rehabilitation and education, research and vulnerable populations be addressed as well.

In order for this to happen, Campaign SightFirst II was begun and, once again, the Lions of the world have been asked to be the leaders in this fight against blindness. It was determined that an initial goal of 150 million dollars and a “stretch” goal of 50 million dollars would be needed to address the issues above.

To that end, as in the last campaign, many Lions in Multiple District 23 have stepped forward to lead this fight. They are as follows:
